I had the great opportunity to go to Stockholm recently and during this trip I made sure to visit the Vasa museum that houses Vasa, the Swedish war ship completed in 1627. Badly designed and overloaded, it sank just 2 km from port during its maiden voyage. Despite being so close to shore, 30 to 50 people perished in the cold waters nonetheless. The cold polluted waters, however, helped keep the ship in an incredibly preserved state. Read more about Vasa from Wikipedia.
