This picture kind of looks like a black and white art photo from the 70s, but it's actually a photo of Lewis Powell, conspirator to the Lincoln assassination and one of the 4 men hanged for it. This picture was taken some time before his execution in 1865. I really like the lighting and mood of this photo.

For some reason I recognized it as a Civil War-era photo immediately. It is true, the resolution is incredible, not befitting of its age. I think it's the look in the eyes, though. They always had that look back then, maybe due to the cameras.
